Segment

There are times in life when things come to a head, a point, where processes that were put into motion before the world began come to bear the fruit that they were created for. These times are very specific, very poignant, and if you think back in your own life, you will recognize those points. Perhaps there was only one, perhaps several, but they can usually be counted on one hand, or perhaps two. Toes are rarely necessary for this sum. It is at these tipping points where all things hang in the balance, where life or death is the product of a moment’s choice, where destinies are fulfilled… or lost forever in the dreams of what “could have been.” Sometimes we recognize these times for what they are, but more often, they come upon us like phantoms in the night, winding their threads through our lives into an endless knot, and it is only after that knot has been set and can never be untied when we look back with the clarity of hindsight and see that season of our life for what it truly was. And when we do look back, it will either be with the deepest of sorrows and regret for the loss that we cannot fathom, or with infinite thankfulness toward the God whom we trusted to lead us through a labyrinth where human understanding was rendered useless. Perhaps this is but a taste of that day of reckoning, when all pretenses will be done away with, when we will stand with our lives naked in the all-consuming light of Light Himself—perhaps His greatest judgment will be simple silence, as we recognize the paths that were offered to us but which we chose not to take, for fear of… for fear of… what were we so afraid of?

"Sit and ponder?" "amazing?" "something great to look forward to?"...What are words but a fading thought lost in the wind.

Just kiddin...good stuff Tim. It would be swell if you reach the goal by the end of November.

Failure, I think...or the fear of the Unknown--at least that's what God's been pointing out in me. I like what you've written; it sounds like your own testimony, actually--well really, all of ours who have faced those cruxes and somehow by grace chosen the dark, unknown road. Here's an encouragement as you continue--maybe you're already doing this--but what if you used the book to tell your story. Might be easier to find 50K words, and a real life epistle even in fiction form is powerful. Just a thought.

That's very generous, but I don't think I'd feel comfortable taking on a lead blog role; I prefer to function as a support-blogger. But I wonder if this is a hint that I shouldn't post comments with higher word count than the actual blog owners...You can tell me, really. (I guess I do have a lot to say).

Oh, and I'm sorry about your back Tim; that's awful. But maybe you'll be able to write a lot--suffering plus down time equals artistic productivity, right?

Suffering plus downtime plus muscle relaxers plus naproxen equals... me spaced out watching Saving Private Ryan instead of writing. :)
