You'll know when you see it, but a good question when refering to oneself i think. A good follow up question would be sold-out to what? or to whom? That would make a large difference in what "sold-out" looks like.
I like Kristina's analogy! I think in someone's life it does look like that too: somewhere you decided that everything you have is for God, and even if it wants you, nothing in the world can buy into your heart anymore.
The odd thing is that the term "sold out" has two meanings that are very very different. There's "sold out" as in, "sold out & radical!" OR, there's "sold out," as in "he's such a sell-out." Weird.
