Red Card Davis

Tonight I joined my friends at the Sports Arena to play some indoor soccer. I was looking forward to it, though a bit nervous since I've been fighting a respiratory bug and don't quite feel up to snuff. I knew I would be getting a work out.

Or not.

I got about five minutes into the game when I was feeling the chest congestion start to loosen up a bit. I shot a snot rocket and spit, and was immediately given a red card by the ref and kicked out of the building. I guess you're not supposed to spit on indoor soccer fields, which makes sense now that I think about it, though it felt pretty natural at the moment. But they're pretty serious about their rules. They wouldn't even let me stay in the building and watch the rest of the game, and I can't play in the next game, but after that they'll let me back, if I leave my spitting days behind me.

Here's Another Post

If you have a couple of minutes where you're not feeling rushed and you can sit with decent audio and watch this video, please do so. And I would be interested to hear what you think about it.

Amusement

I thought of a fun game. Want to play? It's pretty easy. All you have to do is click on the comments link below this post, look at the letters in the word verification, and then create a sentence for which the word verification would be an acronym. For instance, if the letters in the word verification are CFRULE, you could comment:

Chinese food rocks the universe. Let's eat!

Captain Obvious Strikes Back

Nothing is automatic. Even things that you think are, or should be automatic, are not. Life takes a lot of work. A better, more successful life takes more work and dedication than a less successful, less satisfying life. You and I are limited by our own expectations of what we can and cannot accomplish in our lives. We place a lid on our abilities with certain mindsets and attitudes that hold us back. We don't always want success because we don't want the responsibility that goes with it. You are, at times, your own worst enemy.

You need to bring kung-fu to yourself in a forceful way.

Wedding Shots

You may or may not know that last August I traveled to AZ to be the best man in Nate and Erica's wedding. It was fun. I rented a Dodge Charger. Anyway, here are some super sweet wedding photos from the professional photo-taking-people from that day. Enjoy.

My Name

I really like my name. I like Timothy even better than Tim. Maybe I should become one of those people who insists everyone call them by a particular name. But no. I don't want to be one of those people. However, if you want to call me Timothy, you can. It is, after all, my name. And did I mention that I like it? I do. Especially in print.

Timothy.

Colour

Ever wondered what it would be like to release 250,000 bouncy balls into the streets of San Francisco? Me too. And Sony as well. Except Sony actually had the money and clout to find out. (Warning: If you have a slow internet connection, this will take approx. one million years to download.)

Iraq

From today's news:

"Two near simultaneous car bombs killed 20 people and wounded 17 in a mixed neighborhood in northern Baghdad on Monday, an Interior Ministry source said, bringing the death toll from a four-day rampage of sectarian fighting to at least 111."

"Meanwhile, five soldiers and two Marines were killed in fighting Sunday, bringing to 14 the number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq over the past three days. A total of 58 U.S. troops have been killed in the first two weeks of October. "

"On Sunday, four car bombs exploded in apparently coordinated attacks in the restive northern oil city of Kirkuk, killing 10 people. "

"The Balad fighting exploded Friday with the discovery of the headless bodies of 17 Shiite workers discovered in an orchard near the city, 50 miles north of Baghdad."

I am just really, really tired of reading about all of this killing. The news is a constant death count, and I am frustrated because I don't understand it. I am not trying to make a political statement, or say we are wrong to be in Iraq. I am just saying that I wish these people would stop killing each other. I wish all of these car bombs would stop. All of it is so senseless.

Thirty

I have just completed my thirtieth year of existence on planet Earth. How does it feel to turn 30? I wasn't sure how I would feel about it beforehand, but now that I'm 30, I have to say--I really like it! There's something solid and sure about thirty... the insecurity and instability of my 20s are behind me, and I have so much to look forward to this decade. Marriage, ministry, kids... I'm going to be a busy guy.

Water

In my fridge on the top shelf I have three columns of five waters, all sitting in perfect rows, standing at attention, waiting for my slightest water-fancy, a whim of thirst, a dash out the door with a water in hand. I like having them there, knowing they're just inside that door, waiting in the darkness for the light to come on, the hand to snatch one up, twist the cap off and down the contents.

Oswald Chambers

After every time of exaltation we are brought down with a sudden rush into things as they are where it is neither beautiful nor poetic nor thrilling. The height of the mountain top is measured by the drab drudgery of the valley; but it is in the valley that we have to live for the glory of God. We see His glory on the mount, but we never live for His glory there ... Most of us can do things if we are always at the heroic pitch because of the natural selfishness of our hearts, but God wants us at the drab commonplace pitch, where we live in the valley according to our personal relationship to Him.
